Happy Labor Day XC Family!
I hope you all are enjoying the day off today so far. Run with your friends still if you can! This weekend's course can be brutal on the hills so be ready!
Weekend Recap:
Shoutout to Evers AND Kelsi for getting new school records on Saturday! Kelsi and Lily both beat a record held since 2017, which is a huge win this early in the season. Everyone killed it, you guys all did amazing and your coaches are so proud of you. I saw so many of you taking several minutes off your PRs. That is insane!! Keep the work up, you are all crushing.
This Week:
This weekend we are headed to Laguna Hills. Registration closed earlier than usual so if you cannot attend and I had you entered, just communicate with me and I'll take care of it. Any info I miss below can be found on the Laguna Hills website.
Location:
Laguna Hills High School
Entries:
Please review the entries sheet attached for your name. Races are by grade level. If you are missing from the list let me know and I can fix it. If you are not racing, as stated above, just let me know.
Parking:
Spectator parking can be found on the Laguna Hills Campus, Laguna Hills Community Center, and up Paseo de Valencia south of Alicia Parkway (bus/van parking is along Laguna Hills Drive).
* No-Parking street signs will be bagged and you will not be ticketed during the event.
* Do NOT park in the shopping centers adjacent to campus, YOU WILL BE TOWED!
Schedule:
Plan to arrive extra early for parking, it is worth it. Girls freshman race is the first of the day at 7:45. Boys seniors are last at 11:20. As previously stated, I'd like to have the whole team there from start to finish. It is a much better experience when we can support each other in every race! We will be running Division 3 in the race schedule. Should there be excessive heat the schedule will be adjusted to the heat index schedule. Plan on being there for the earlier schedule just in case. I don't think they will need to put it in place, but you never know.
Athlete Warmup Areas:
Runners are not allowed inside the track perimeter for warm-ups before the meet, or at any time during the meet except to check in for the start of a race, and to finish. Runners may warm-up on the upper fields, or the baseball field. Teams warming up on the course after races commence must do so in single file, and must yield to racers.
Course:
Please review and save the course map before the race. We will go over it at pre-meet as well. For parents, I'll attach the facilities map for directions too.
Finish Line:
There are two, side by side finish chutes, labeled BOYS and GIRLS. It is each runner’s responsibility to make certain that they finish in the correct chute, and that their tear away tag is pulled by an official for timing and medaling purposes.
Awards:
The top 40 finishers will receive a custom Laguna Hills Cross Country Invitational medal at the end of the chute. Top teams will receive custom bags and a champion plaque.
Next Week:
Please let me know by this Thursday if you cannot make it to Woodbridge next week. Registration needs to be completed a week in advance due to the size of the event. I am working on transportation plans and will have more info next week. I just need to know who is attending. I highly recommend everyone attend, it is one of the most fun races of the season. All flat, evening/night races. PR's all around.
