Hello Everyone!
Fantastic job at our meet this past Wednesday, you all did an amazing job! It was not a scoring event, but if it was we would have won boys and girls! Saturday at the invitational both the boys and girls DMR teams beat our school record by a landslide. Phenomenal work everyone!
Room for Improvements:
We did amazing for having many of you never having done a meet before. There's always room for improvements so here's a few things we need to do better.
-No electronics, whatsoever, on the field. I don't think our team in particular had a big issue with this, but as a reminder there cannot be any phones on the track or infield. There was a lot noted from the last league meet. The league saw it prevalent enough to start penalizing teams for it if it continues so please obey the rule.
-Field events must check in and check out whenever needing to leave for a running event. As a reminder, track events always get priority over field events. However, you must inform whoever is running the event that you will be running when it starts or that you will need to leave in the middle of the event. If you do not tell them you are there at the meet before you are called they may assume you are scratching the event or are not there. If you tell them ahead of time, they must let you compete when you return. They should let you do multiple jumps or throws in a row to save time too if that's better for you. Please over communicate clearly with the officials so you don't get scratched. For those of you that were not allowed to finish your throws in discus last week, the official was incorrect in their actions due to stressing out over daylight. Hopefully the time change solves this going forward, it was addressed.
-Warming up and cooling down properly is just as important at meets as it is at practice. You all need to start warming up at least two events prior to your own events. You should be doing a full ten minutes and your plyos, just like at practice. You should also be warming up TOGETHER. If you notice someone that is racing the same event isn't on the field with you, go find them and make sure they know where to be. We are a team, let's help each other out. Look out for each other, go out of your way for each other. We want everyone to be supported and be properly prepared for a race so we can succeed as a team. After your races you should be doing a full cooldown as well. When you catch your breath and get your spikes off, cooldown right away with each other. Two FULL LAPS at the minimum is what you should be doing. If you don't do a cooldown, you're asking for an injury to happen in your next race.
-Wear the proper spikes to the meets! Wearing pyramids and 1/2" spikes are fine at practice. On the all weather tracks you must have a 3/16" needle in your spikes. Wearing improper spikes at a meet where they check them can mean you are not allowed to race in them. It also will rip up the turf. We want to be respectful of the school that hosts us and take care of the facilities by wearing proper equipment.
-Alternates should be ready to go when they are put into an event. Many times you won't be racing, but you should always be ready to go in case you are needed. Relays require teamwork, if one person isn't ready the rest will fail. Do your diligence to be a successful part of the team you're placed on. Show up ready, warm up on time, and be reliable. The more good alternates we have, the more successful we can be, regardless of injuries or unexpected roadblocks.
Coastal Joining Monday Again
Coastal Academy still has not found a track so they will be joining us again on Monday. They learned a lot from us last week and really appreciated the help. Let's keep up the good sportsmanship and continue to welcome and support them while they figure out their first season.
Picture Day:
Picture day is still scheduled for Tuesday. Fingers crossed that the rain will hold off until we get them done. Come in your uniforms ready to go. Practice will go long, so we can still do pre-meet after pictures. I will email if we have to change picture day. We may have to decide the day of, so be prepared please.
Cluster Meet #2
I will attach the meet entries to this message for you to review. I entered many of you into some more field events, as that's where we are slacking in points overall. We also need more hurdlers so I need some of you to try it out. You could get last place in some of these and still score us points! I encourage you to try out new events while these meets don't count as scoring, It can't ever hurt to try, so try early on before you decide you don't want to do an event!
I have until Monday night to make changes, so please review events and let me know about any scratches or added events you'd like. Don't tell me Tuesday!
Falcon Relays Cancelled
The Falcon Relays unfortunately will not be having us this weekend. There was an issue with registration that went unresolved so we could not sign up.

I'm super proud of each of you for the hard work and willingness to get out of your comfort zones. This team is going to go very far if we keep it up. Ask for help when you need it, and try as many new events as you can. Keep striving to get better every day!
